Netflix and NO Chill {Macbeth Style}
1. How to Get Away with Murder
Macbeth would watch Viola Davis star in the highly acclaimed series centering around murder, guilt, and drama. Macbeth after committing more than one violent act on his own would watch HTGAWM in order to ease his guilt conscious and to get tips about how to deal with guilt. Also he is a fan of Shonda Rhimes because she gives him the major feels and as well as know Macbeth is highly emotional.
2. Gossip Girl
While you might not originally think Macbeth would watch such a girly show, think again cause he sure would. Macbeth {before he becomes a murderer} is quite in touch with his feminine side. He also relates strongly to the female centric plot of Gossip Girl where women manipulate, convince, and connive in order to gain more and more power.
3. Person of Interest
Although Person of Interest is a very modern and current show focusing on the power of technology to act as a big brother. But Macbeth finds solace in watching a show that has a similar level of paranoia as he does. POIs paranoia focuses on a God-like machine while Macbeth worries about the witches' prophecies and being dethroned.
4. Alias
Macbeth other than just adoring Jennifer Garner loves the premise of Alias with it's focus on the supernatural and corrupt leadership. He most identifies with the antagonist Arvin Sloane as Arvin kills anyone who gets in his way to achieving power. Additionally Arvin believes that killing his opponent's family {Jack Bristow} is definitely okay which makes Macbeth feel less guilty about the fate of Macduff. Also Alias relates to the premise that Macbeth is surrounded in of two sides and masks {Fair is foul and foul is fair}.

I really like the connections that you made between Macbeth's character and why he would like certain Netflix series. Not only were you able to address different elements of Macbeth's personality, such as his guilt, his interest in the supernatural, and his paranoia, you also did a really good job of explaining how those traits would cause him to relate to characters of various T.V. shows. I particularly love the recommendation of Gossip Girl (and not just because it's one of my favorite shows ever) ;) I definitely agree that he loves seeing women manipulate in order to gain status and power. Overall, really great job Jenna!
ReplyDeleteI think that i is really cool how you related Macbeth at the start of the play to Gossip Girl. I never would have thought about doing that. I like your reasoning for Macbeth watching HTGAWM. It seems like such an appropriate reasoning that he is trying to ease his guilt. I used the same show but interpreted it as Macbeth finding motivation to do what he was doing from the characters in the show since he is easily manipulated he would easily consider doing what the characters were doing.
ReplyDeleteI love that in you HTGAWM post you mention how emotional Macbeth is. It's fascinating to see how emotional he was at the beginning of the play and how as he becomes more corrupted, he seems to grow more unfeeling, like after Lady M's death
ReplyDeleteI really like how you thought to include Gossip Girl into your recommendations. I would have never thought to do that because we think more about his switch to manipulation not his switch to a more feminine side, so that was really unique!
